What should one do as the reality that Singapore youths carry choppers to leisure spots such as Downtown East? A walk home could mean being hacked to pulp for mistaken identity?
The trauma to my sense of safety remains till this day when the lone woman danced in crowded Sentosa and was publicly groped by a group of men and no one came to rescue her... Even if she looked inviting with lewd or flirtatious moves, the crowd that saw her outraged said and did nothing.
The message could only be: I live in a silent and morally weak society.
What could I do when I see a group of youths bashing one youth right in the middle of a crowded park? What should I say when a woman screams 'molest' and I didn't see how he molested her... Why are these basic responses so far from basic for the Singaporean?
