National Geographic

This is taken at Vivocity (Harbourfront MRT).

A one-month old cafe which serves good tea. They even boast of having one of the most accomplished Spanish Chefs for Pinchos (snacks typically eaten in bars)! I had a good time browsing the magazine laid on the table (National Geographic, of course) and my oh my! Saw that Kangaroo Island near Adelaide, Australia is a good good well-kept wild life paradise.

And I dutifully contained all that excitment in an email to a friend in Australia, and started marking the hundredth exam script...

Chicago

I've a strange sense that Chicago, the musical does not worth its ticket price. Hence, I've no intention to watch it. A student however informed me that it was marvelous.

Feeling a sense of duty to understand what's marvelous to my student, I bought a ticket.

The stage is simple. The orchestra took up almost the entire upstage section. Dancers are scantily dressed as expected. There's no doubt that they can sing as well as they can dance. The question is which performer in musicals offer less than this.

In conclusion, I am mightily glad that I've gotten the cheapest ticket at $43. Merchant of Bollywood, though less known, would win hands down. Granted that these two musicals are two different genre of dance. Yet there's no excuse that the energetic dance of Bollywood, a very foreign dance form set the audience butts on fire and our feet and hips to rhythmic sway while Chicago could merely achieve an attentive appreciative audience.

I felt resolute to bring my students to see one expensive production which has more elaborate set design and lighting.

Yes, I'm a true blue educator.

Love the verse on this wall of the Restaurant!

WHAT DOES IT PROFIT A MAN
IF HE GAINS THE WHOLE WORLD
AND LOSES HIS SOUL?

Hereditary Traits - REBELS

I'm blamed for a near accident of my 3-year-old niece. And I'm happy about it till now. Still smiling each time I recall the incident. You can say there's a tinge of pride of seeing myself in the little one.

Seeing how some people across the road are dancing, little one pulled with all her might to lead the adult to cross the road. Her desire, most ardent one too, is to dance together with those people. No adult relented. She MADE A DASH for the road!

And for this I'm to be blamed though I was not at the scene at all. Spiritually, emotionally and physically absent.

For wanting something, I could just give up everything else to reach my objective to learn. That was me when I was young. So young that when my father threw my schoolbag out, I eloped with my schoolbag.

For such reckless love for learning, my 3-year-old niece and I are now in the same boat for our fiery reckless temper.

Somehow, I love her even more now... ke ke ke...

Best Gift

The best gift
is when you touch it
and feel the love spent
to choose the gift

The best gift
is when the giver senses
your hope to be remembered
and give humbly
- happy by this feeling of being wanted

The best gift
is each time you
touch
smell
taste
hear
see
the gift
a ripple of joy
bubbles within...

I've received the best gift

a ship or a roof?

taken on 2 April 2010.

New buildings rise against the sea of Singapore coast. My friend from Hong Kong says Singapore has many interesting buildings. It's gratifying that our quirkiness in construction and preservation is gettting noticed.

Heart beating

‘仍想结婚的女人‘这剧情,扣人心弦。女主角背景被嫌弃,作了明智的选择却往往是泪水往里吞的局势。。。 心疼。

主人翁事事顺利时, 我也乐在其中。心情被它牵引着。。。

Wrapped up for growth

Even without leaves, these trees are enchanting.

When bound together, they look interesting.

Where's the idea of 'ugliness' in nature? Totally absent!

Building Love

Fell in love with these structures made of straw and wood. NO glue or nails! No cement!

Can stand earthquake, strong wind and snow! But very very susceptible to fire.

Such a beauty in the snow...

Even the drain looks superb

Even the water droplets from the eaves of the roof at Shirakawago is enchanting! The carps in the drains were beautiful. Aiyo... so enchanting. So glad that we stayed over at a traditional Thatched roof house (which many tourists do not attempt).

wish Fulfilled

I've always wanted to visit a world heritage site.

My first is SHIRAKAWAGO, JAPAN!

On 14 Mar 2010, Sunday, I reached 白川谷(shirakawago) with my travelmates. And we were enchanted. Living in one of the thatched roof houses was an experience indeed.

At dinner, the lady of the house played the samisen and introduced very traditional instruments to us. Frankly, I didn't even know they existed!

Night was tough as the paper thin walls are cold for us tropical folks. It didn't help that the heater switches itself off every now and then.

Staying over gave us photographs without other tourists as background and we saw a million stars!

Love & Gentleness

In the city
In our busy schedule
If someone is willing and happy
to have a meal with you
You must have a relationship
with that person
that matters.

Youth

My niece when she was 1.5 yr old

JOKE 1
My friend A who went out with me (6 years my senior) met a friend B at the hawker centre. I was sitting down enjoying my char siew rice. B looked at my back view and exclaimed to A, "Wow, your daughter has really grown!"

JOKE 2

Man sits next to me on the bus. He asked, "Are you a student?"

JOKE 3

My driver in Indonesia took a double take to realise I'm not 27 years old or younger.

Now, let me recommend the 2010 beauty products that has caused me to look younger in recent days:
a) stress from work
b) little sleep
c) love! (for the bed)

People who know me well will be shocked to hear my love for the bed as one of my principals in life is to not take naps for regular sleep has already taken up 1/3 of our lives!

Living Space

This image is taken from http://hubpages.com.

A house? What would it be like for me to have a house?

Gentleness soothes a tired soul

Having only one hour break to either photostat more notes or to have a meal, I chose to eat.

Leaning against the very familiar noodle stall in the canteen (patron of 7 full years), I languidly ordered laksa. Uncle put one lao po bing into a plastic bag and tel me to eat it in the next break...

Kindness comes in a comforting round form...

手紙を書いた!

I've finally written the thank you letters to the police post and secondary school we've visited in Nov 2009.

It's very Japanese to close a programme with a letter of thanks. Of course, this is totally not necessary in Singapore. If any one of us write a letter of thanks, it is only because the recipient has really gone the extra extra mile for us.

Very rusty in writing the Japanese language... sigh. Thankful for dictionaries.
